The Secretary-General of Turkey’s ruling AK Party, İnan, has strongly criticized the European Parliament’s recently adopted 2025 Turkey Report. İnan accused the Parliament of applying double standards and harboring political bias towards Turkey. The report, approved by the European Parliament’s General Assembly, has drawn condemnation from Ankara. According to İnan, the report fails to offer a fair and objective assessment of the situation in Turkey. He asserts the document merely serves to formally record pre-existing prejudices. This is not the first time the AK Party has voiced concerns regarding reports issued by the European Parliament concerning Turkey, highlighting a continuing strain in relations. The criticism suggests a deepening divide between Turkish officials and European lawmakers regarding perceptions of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law within Turkey.
