Dozens of miners were detained in Ankara on Monday after protesting unpaid wages and severance outside the Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry. The protesting workers represent Eti Gümüş, a silver producer, and Doruk Mining, a coal-mining company, both linked to Yıldızlar SSS Holding. They travelled from the mining regions of Elazığ and Eskişehir to demand their due compensation. The miners, members of the Independent Mine Workers Union (Bağımsız Maden-İş), are seeking not only unpaid wages but also severance pay and compensation for unpaid leave. The detention occurred during a demonstration intended to bring attention to their financial grievances.
