Thousands of Turkish citizens, including those affected by government purges and human rights activists, demonstrated in Strasbourg on Wednesday outside the Council of Europe. The protesters called for stronger action from European human rights organizations regarding Turkey’s continued non-compliance with rulings issued by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). This was the fifth annual “Justice March” organized by the expatriate community. Demonstrators expressed frustration with what they perceive as insufficient response from Europe, seeking concrete measures beyond verbal criticism. The core demand centers on Turkey’s refusal to implement previous ECtHR decisions, impacting individuals affected by political and legal issues within Turkey. Organizers hope the protest will increase pressure on European bodies to hold Turkey accountable for upholding human rights standards.
