Turkey’s Banking and Financial Markets Supervision Agency (BDDK) has introduced new regulations concerning mobile phone loans and credit card minimum payments. The BDDK has redefined the terms for mobile phone financing, allowing 12-month loans for phones valued up to 40,000 Turkish Lira (TL) and for renewed phones up to 50,000 TL. Regarding credit cards, the limit for applying a 20 percent minimum payment has been raised to 100,000 TL. These changes aim to manage consumer debt and stabilize the financial market within Turkey. The new rules seek to balance consumer access to finance with responsible lending practices. These regulations are expected to impact a significant number of consumers in Turkey who utilize mobile phone financing and credit cards. The BDDK stated the adjustments were necessary given current economic conditions.
