A new film dramatizing the Tuam Mother and Baby Home scandal in Ireland will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh. The film focuses on Catherine Corless, the local historian who investigated and brought to light the mass graves at the former home. Monica Dolan portrays Corless in the production, which is produced by actor Liam Neeson. The film is described as approaching the sensitive topic with “immense sensitivity.” The Tuam Mother and Baby Home operated from 1925 to 1961 and was run by the Bon Secours Sisters. Investigations revealed the remains of hundreds of children were improperly buried on the site, sparking national outrage and a formal inquiry. The film’s release is anticipated to further raise awareness of the scandal and the experiences of those affected.
