Following a series of aerial attacks, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a deal to halt conflict with Iran is drawing near. Trump stated they were close to a “very good” agreement to stop the war, during a press conference. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei dismissed the claim as “speculation,” asserting that nothing has been finalized. This announcement follows previous statements by Trump suggesting a deal was imminent, despite earlier threats of strong retaliation against Iran. While a ceasefire was initially reached in mid-April, both sides have continued to engage in hostilities, with the U.S. military conducting recent air strikes on Iranian facilities. The announcement caused a 4.4% drop in Brent crude oil prices, reaching approximately $89 per barrel. Trump indicated the potential for a deal to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, possibly signed in Europe, and promised the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, following consultations with regional allies and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
