President Zelenskyy states he is awaiting American details regarding a potential ceasefire in the energy sector. Earlier today, President Trump announced that Ukraine and Russia have reportedly agreed to immediately cease attacks on each other’s energy facilities. However, the Ukrainian president claims he has no knowledge of this agreement but reiterates his willingness to agree to a ceasefire, contingent on Russia reciprocating. Zelenskyy, in an interview with Axios, requested clarity from Trump regarding the start date of the ceasefire, stating Ukraine is prepared to accept it. Both Russia and Ukraine have been targeting each other’s energy infrastructure for months, and Russia has yet to respond to Trump’s social media announcement. While Trump claims an "energy ceasefire" has been agreed upon, he provided no specifics, simply urging compliance, and Zelenskyy conveyed Ukraine’s support pending details from the U.S., discussing the matter with Canadian Prime Minister Carney, Finnish President Stubb, and NATO Secretary-General Rutte. Despite American concerns, Kyiv remains unwilling to halt attacks on Russia’s oil industry, viewing it as crucial to weakening the Russian economy and war effort, and will only cease such attacks if Russia stops aerial assaults on Ukraine.
