Authorities in Touba, Senegal are actively preparing for the Grand Magal pilgrimage on August 2nd, prioritizing water security for the expected millions of visitors. Fifty water tankers have been deployed to pre-fill household reserves, easing potential strain during the peak influx of pilgrims. Repair work is underway on the city’s distribution network, aided by local plumbers and the Rural Drilling Office (OFOR). Recently, the Ministry of Hydraulics activated three new wells, bringing the total operational wells to 48, with a fourth expected soon. To conserve resources, temporarily suspending reverse osmosis treatment units has been decided to prioritize household water access. These measures aim to ensure a welcoming environment and sufficient resources for all attending the Grand Magal.
