TotalEnergies is actively seeking business partners to restart its liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province. The project was halted in 2021 due to security concerns related to Islamist insurgency. Company chair Jean-Pascal Clémençon emphasized the project’s potential to transform Mozambique’s economy and deliver significant energy resources. TotalEnergies is collaborating with the Mozambican government and international partners to improve security in the region, which they believe is crucial for resuming operations. The resumption of the LNG project is expected to generate substantial revenue and employment opportunities for Mozambique. However, a final investment decision remains contingent on securing adequate funding and guaranteeing project safety. TotalEnergies aims for a 2024 restart, pending these conditions are met.
