Norwegian music rights organization Tono is implementing changes after an emergency meeting prompted by the announced departure of prominent artist Alan Walker and his manager, Gunnar Greve. The pair cited concerns over Tono’s power structure and revenue distribution as reasons for leaving. In response, Tono will hold an extraordinary general meeting on September 1st and promises a more inclusive process involving members and partners. The organization has also temporarily reduced funding for cultural initiatives until the meeting. This move follows a week of intense criticism alleging Tono’s system is outdated and unfair. Despite the controversy, Tono reported distributing 714.8 million Norwegian kroner to rights holders in 2025.
