Senegal’s national fire brigade responded to a significant number of incidents during the recent Gamou de Tivaouane religious gathering, held August 22-27. Emergency services conducted 254 interventions, providing care to 429 people, including tragically, four fatalities. Traffic accidents accounted for a large portion of the incidents, with 66 accidents resulting in 224 victims, three of whom died. Beyond emergency response, the brigade also provided 468 free medical consultations and distributed 975 cubic meters of water to pilgrims and residents via tanker trucks. Firefighters also worked to mitigate flooding at ten affected locations due to heavy rainfall. The fire brigade will maintain a presence at the site to continue offering assistance as the religious gathering concludes.
