Thailand’s economic growth slowed considerably in the second quarter of 2026, registering just 1.9% year-on-year. This figure marks the lowest growth rate among six major economies within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The slowdown is a significant dip from the 2.8% growth seen in the first quarter of the year. According to the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), the economy even contracted by 0.2% after seasonal adjustments were made. NESDC Secretary-General Danucha Pichayanan announced these concerning figures on Monday. The data signals potential challenges for Thailand’s economic performance in the region and necessitates further analysis of contributing factors.
