The Bank of Thailand (BOT) is taking steps to address a prolonged contraction in lending to Small & Medium Sized Industries (SMEs). Governor Vitai Ratanakorn announced the development of three new measures aimed at improving SMEs’ access to financial resources, following 16 consecutive quarters of lending decline. A key component of this initiative is the creation of an SME Credit Portal designed to connect businesses with lenders. The BOT hopes these actions will stimulate growth within the crucial SME sector of Thailand’s economy. Details of the remaining two measures were not immediately disclosed. This intervention signals a proactive approach by the central bank to support economic recovery and foster business development in Thailand. The move is intended to revitalize a sector struggling with access to capital.
