Thai authorities are investigating up to 1,500 potential cases of citizenship fraud involving children born in Bangkok. The alleged scheme centers around falsely declaring Thai men as fathers to grant citizenship to children who are not legally entitled to it. The investigation originated from a 2023 online shopping scam and its link to alleged Chinese scam leader Chen. Eight Bangkok hospitals are currently implicated in the fraudulent activity. The House Committee on Legal Affairs, Justice, and Human Rights revealed the findings on Thursday. Authorities are working to determine the full extent of the operation and hold those responsible accountable. This case raises concerns about national security and the integrity of Thailand’s citizenship process.
