The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched a special investigation following a fatal crash in Texas involving a Tesla vehicle. A 76-year-old man was killed when a Tesla impacted his home on Thursday. This incident marks the latest in a series of crashes involving Tesla vehicles and raises concerns about the safety of the vehicles’ automated driving systems. The probe will focus on the circumstances leading up to the crash, including potential system malfunctions or driver error. Investigators will examine the vehicle’s technology and data recorders to determine the cause. This is not the first time NHTSA has investigated Tesla’s Autopilot system, with previous probes focusing on unexpected braking and collisions with stationary emergency vehicles. The agency is currently evaluating over 500 crashes involving Tesla vehicles that may have utilized automated driving features.
