Over 3,000 students in Xai-Xai, Gaza province, are currently without classes due to a teacher strike that resumed this Monday. The walkout affects three educational institutions: Ndambine Primary School, Ndambine 2000 Secondary School, and Primary School 2013. Approximately 250 teachers have ceased work to protest unpaid overtime dating back to 2023 and unjustified salary cuts. Educators claim the government has repeatedly failed to honor promises to resolve these financial disputes. Beyond monetary issues, striking teachers allege an atmosphere of intimidation orchestrated by the education sector's permanent secretary. They report that pressure and threats are being used to discourage the strike instead of fostering dialogue. Consequently, thousands of students remain at school but are unable to receive instruction.
