Tanzania is actively seeking to establish itself as a key pharmaceutical manufacturing center in Africa. A government delegation from the Pharmaceutical Investment Acceleration Taskforce (PIAT) attended CPHI China 2024 in Shanghai, aiming to attract international pharmaceutical companies. The focus of the delegation was to secure investment from drug manufacturers, active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) producers, and contract manufacturing organizations. This initiative signals Tanzania’s ambition to reduce reliance on imported pharmaceuticals and boost its local production capacity. The country hopes to leverage the event to forge partnerships and accelerate growth within its pharmaceutical sector. This move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Tanzania’s healthcare infrastructure and economic development. The delegation’s presence at CPHI China underscores the government’s commitment to attracting foreign direct investment in this vital industry.
