Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo have agreed to speed up development of key infrastructure projects. These include a Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line intended to run through Burundi, enhancing regional connectivity. Additionally, the nations will prioritize laying a fibre-optic cable across Lake Tanganyika, improving communications. The commitment was recently reinforced by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo. These projects aim to foster stronger economic ties and integration between the two countries and the wider East African region. The acceleration signifies a renewed focus on bolstering infrastructure for trade and development. Further details are expected as implementation plans are formalized.
