The Tanzania Chess Association (TACA) is launching a nationwide program to promote chess within the educational system. As part of this initiative, TACA plans to distribute chessboards to five schools in each of Tanzania’s regions. The aim is to broaden the game’s reach and, crucially, to identify promising young chess players. This announcement was made by TACA representative Louis Paaka at the International Chess Tournament Open 2026 in Arusha. The tournament itself was organized by the Elimu Yetu Development Organisation. This expansion effort signals a commitment to developing chess as a recognized and accessible sport for Tanzanian youth. The program hopes to cultivate future chess champions from across the country.
