A recent statement by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Serigne Guèye Diop, during the first winter university of the Kiiraay party in Dakar, has triggered a significant internal dispute. Speaking at the King Fahd Palace, Diop advocated for dismantling existing local party structures, asserting that only those under the authority of designated supervisors appointed by Bassirou Diomaye Faye are currently recognized. He also rejected individual coordinator appointments at regional, departmental, and local levels, urging a complete restructuring from the ground up based on mobilization and electoral success. The departmental coordination of Kiiraay in Kaolack strongly opposed these declarations, expressing “profound desolation” and “firm disapproval”. They reaffirmed their loyalty to the party hierarchy led by Aminata Touré and their adherence to the political line established by Faye. Despite the firm disagreement, the coordination in Kaolack called for continued work with responsibility and discipline, signaling a refusal to dissolve or await further instructions.
