Millions of residents in Stockholm and Gotland County received the alert during Monday’s large-scale test of Sweden’s new VMA (Allmänt varnningssystem – General Warning System) alert system, but many Telia customers did not. According to Mikael Frisell, Director-General of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (Myndigheten för civilt försvar), Telia did not adhere to the required specifications. Specifically, Telia had set too low a character limit, resulting in the blockage of the entire message and its delivery failure. Frisell informed TT news agency of this issue. This failure indicates a critical flaw in the system's ability to reach all citizens during an emergency. The incident raises questions about the reliability of the nationwide warning system and the need for Telia to rectify its implementation.
