Sweden’s transport administration, Trafikverket, has awarded SJ the contract to operate overnight train services to upper Norrland for the next two years. This decision marks a significant improvement in rail travel options for the region. Crucially, the agreement includes the reintroduction of direct, no-change journeys in sleeping and couchette cars. These direct routes will extend all the way to the final destination of Narvik, Norway. Previously, passengers required transfers, adding inconvenience and time to their journeys. The move aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility to northern Sweden and Norway. The restored service is expected to boost tourism and facilitate easier travel for residents.
