A suspected case of plague has been registered in Khovd province, Mongolia, on July 20th. The individual is currently isolated and receiving treatment at the Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center. Initial investigations suggest the infection may have occurred after consuming marmot meat while traveling in the Altai Tavan Bogd region. A PCR test returned a positive result, and further laboratory analysis is underway to confirm the diagnosis, with results expected within 72 hours. Twelve close contacts of the patient have been isolated at home under medical supervision, and currently, none are exhibiting symptoms. Western Mongolian provinces, including Bayan-Olgii, Khovd, Uvs, Govi-Altai, and Zavkhan, are considered plague-active zones, and travelers are advised to avoid contact with marmots.
