A recent claim circulating on X (formerly Twitter) has been verified as true: more students voted in person during the Catholic University’s Student Federation elections than participated in the Broad Front’s internal primary election held electronically. Fact-checking organization Fast Check confirmed the claim after reviewing the voting numbers from both events. The Student Federation elections saw 16,241 votes cast in the first round and 13,273 in the second. In contrast, the Broad Front primary election received a total of 10,358 votes. This data highlights a significantly higher level of participation amongst students in their university elections compared to the Broad Front’s primary process. The discrepancy in voter turnout has prompted discussion about engagement within different political contexts. These results demonstrate a potentially stronger engagement by students with their immediate university governance.
