A ship’s cat accidentally boarded the wrong inland vessel in the port of Antwerp this week, embarking on an unexpected voyage to Vlissingen, Netherlands. The feline passenger was discovered by the ship's captain while en route and the local animal welfare foundation, Stichting Dierenwelzijn Zeeland, was contacted. The cat’s microchip led authorities to its German owner, who was already traveling back towards Germany. Unable to dock in Vlissingen to retrieve his pet, the owner journeyed from Hamburg to Ghent by ship, then completed the trip by car. Remarkably, this wasn’t the first time the owner had lost track of his adventurous cat; it had previously gone missing in Switzerland, Germany, and Belgium. The pair were joyfully reunited in Vlissingen, bringing an end to the cat’s unplanned nautical adventure.
