A recent Spanish study has found no correlation between irregular immigration and increased crime rates. Researchers analyzed crime levels among adult populations in Spain, categorized by nationality, from 2007 to 2023. The study, conducted by demography and sociology professor Jesus Javier Sanchez Barricarte, revealed no positive correlation between undocumented immigration and criminal activity. This challenges prevailing narratives linking immigration to rising crime. The research provides empirical evidence against the assumption that irregular migrants contribute to increased criminality within the Spanish population. The findings suggest other socio-economic factors are more likely drivers of crime rates. The study offers data-driven insights into the complex relationship between immigration and public safety.
