Two South Korean-operated vessels have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz following recent negotiations between the United States and Iran. The South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries confirmed the passage of the ships, which had been awaiting clearance within the strait, but did not disclose specific details regarding timing or vessel names for security reasons. While these ships have passed through, the ministry stated they are not yet clear of potential danger and are not destined for South Korea. This transit marks the first since a memorandum of understanding was signed on June 15th aimed at de-escalating tensions. Currently, 22 South Korean vessels remain in the Strait of Hormuz, carrying 135 South Korean crew members. The move follows an agreement between Tehran and Washington to establish a communication line to ensure the safe passage of commercial ships through the vital oil transit route.
