Algerian energy giant Sonatrach is deepening its collaboration with Italian firm ENI to reduce carbon emissions from its hydrocarbon production. This partnership, formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed August 17th, focuses on decarbonization efforts. The move accelerates Sonatrach’s response to increasingly stringent European environmental regulations, particularly the EU’s new methane regulation. This regulation aims to curtail methane emissions across the energy sector. By working with ENI, Sonatrach seeks to adapt to these changing standards and improve its environmental performance. The collaboration highlights a growing trend of cooperation between energy companies to address climate change and reduce their carbon footprint in line with international agreements. This partnership will be crucial for Sonatrach’s continued operations within the European market.
