Residents of Sofia’s Sredets district are voting today in a by-election to choose a new mayor. Polling stations opened this morning and will remain open until 8 PM local time. Voters have the option of casting their ballots using voting machines or traditional paper ballots. A total of six candidates are competing for the position of mayor in the district. There are 43 polling stations available, located at their usual locations, for the 28,027 eligible voters. The election was called following a previous vacancy in the mayoral office. Results are expected tomorrow.
