Negotiations for the sale of Slovakia’s most-watched television station, Markíza, have fallen through. Czech arms dealer Michal Strnad was unsuccessful in his bid to purchase the channel from investment group PPF Group. Sources familiar with the deal confirmed the collapse to Denník N, a Slovak daily newspaper. The business news website motejlekskocdopole.com also reported the end of talks on Wednesday evening. Speculation regarding a change in ownership of Markíza has been ongoing for over two months. This marks another failed attempt by Strnad to expand his media holdings in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The reasons for the deal’s failure remain undisclosed.
