The Slovak Parliament has approved what is being described as the most extensive legal act in the history of Slovakia. The new Civil Code, exceeding 1,900 paragraphs, will impact all residents by regulating a wide range of rights including inheritance, marital property, and business dealings. Over 230 existing laws will be directly affected by the changes. The code is expected to come into effect from July of next year. The Ministry of Justice is currently preparing an implementing law to further specify the changes within the new Civil Code. Details of specific exclusions from the code have not been disclosed.
