The Slovak government will automatically assign tax identification numbers to non-profit organizations to enable them to receive electronic invoices (eFaktúry). This change stems from last-minute amendments to the Value Added Tax (VAT) law, designed to address implementation issues with the new e-invoicing system. While many businesses won’t be issuing e-invoices, they will be required to accept them. The government has also announced a grace period, postponing penalties for errors until the end of March 2027. Traditional paper invoices and PDF attachments currently sent via email will no longer be accepted for domestic transactions starting in January. The move aims to fully transition to a digital invoicing system across the country.
