A Slovak family is speaking out about their devastating experience navigating the country’s mental healthcare system after a husband and father became severely ill. Miriam and Ľubomíra Števove allege that despite repeated attempts to seek assistance from police, medical professionals, and the courts, their family received no effective support. They claim the system not only failed to help but actively worsened their situation, leading to a feeling of destruction. The family describes the man, a former forestry engineer and skilled craftsman, as someone who previously had no mental health issues. The mother and daughter are now sharing their story to highlight systemic flaws and advocate for improvements in mental healthcare provision within Slovakia. They hope their experience prevents other families from suffering a similar fate.
