Egyptian security forces arrested six journalists – the entire team of the “Metrasdesh” news platform – within a 24-hour period, beginning Monday evening. The arrests involved raids on the journalists’ homes, and their current whereabouts remain unknown. Sources speaking to “Mada Masr” reported that the six journalists and their families faced ill-treatment during the arrests. “Metrasdesh” stated in two releases, yesterday and today, the initial arrest of four team members, while the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights announced today that the number detained has risen to six. The reason for the arrests has not been publicly disclosed. The detentions raise concerns about press freedom and the safety of journalists in Egypt. This incident was first reported on Mada Masr.
