Hungarian singer Enikő Muri has returned funds received from the National Cultural Fund (NKA), joining other recipients in doing so following public debate. Muri, who recently performed the national anthem with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at an event, is among a growing number of individuals repaying the grants. This action follows criticism surrounding the allocation of NKA funding, with recipients like “Kis Grófo” also returning money. Collectively, repayments now represent approximately one-tenth of the total funds distributed by the NKA. The returns suggest a response to mounting pressure and scrutiny over the grant awarding process. The situation highlights ongoing concerns regarding transparency and fairness in state cultural funding in Hungary. Further repayments are anticipated as the controversy continues.
