Archaeologists working at the ancient Greek city of Finziade in Sicily have discovered ancient altars and fragments of statues. The finds suggest significant religious practices took place at the site, located at Monte Sant’Angelo in Licata. Excavations focused on a structure known as “House 9,” yielding insights into the city’s past. The discoveries also hint at a possible sudden abandonment of Finziade by its inhabitants. This latest campaign marks the conclusion of the fifth excavation season of the Finziade Project. Researchers believe the artifacts will provide further understanding of the city’s religious life and eventual fate. The findings contribute to a growing understanding of Greek settlements in Sicily.
