Severe weather conditions in Groningen have resulted in more than 350 trees being uprooted or heavily damaged. The most significant impact occurred east of Groningen city, with approximately 200 trees damaged along the N362 and over 40 fallen near Hoogezand. Provincial official Jan van der Meide described the scene as a "clear-cut," noting that some residents had never experienced such intensity. Beyond the forestry loss, the storm caused structural damage to homes, including blown-off roofs. Experts attribute the devastation to a combination of heavy foliage acting as windcatchers and dry soil providing poor root stability. Over 120 specialists have been deployed to clear debris and reopen blocked roads. It is estimated that roughly one percent of the province's managed tree population was lost.
