Independent journalists’ associations in Serbia, NUNS and ANEM, have strongly condemned new threats directed at journalist Veran Matic and the N1 TV station. The organizations attribute these threats to a prolonged environment of impunity for attacks on media professionals within the country. They assert that the latest incidents represent a dangerous escalation of harassment. NUNS and ANEM are calling for immediate and decisive action from Serbian institutions to investigate the threats and protect media freedom. They emphasize the need to address the systemic issues that allow such attacks to occur without consequence. The associations warn that the lack of accountability emboldens further aggression against journalists and undermines public access to information. This latest condemnation follows a pattern of concerns regarding press freedom and safety in Serbia.
