Heavy rainfall and strong winds caused significant damage in the Senegalese city of Thiès on August 20, 2026. Approximately 70 trees, including caïlcédrats and neems, were uprooted throughout the city, disrupting traffic and damaging infrastructure. Public structures, such as schools, military camps, medical facilities, and gendarmerie brigades, were particularly affected. Residential homes also suffered damage including collapsed walls and roofs. The storm also impacted electrical installations and green spaces. Emergency services and local authorities were quickly mobilized to clear debris, secure affected areas, and restore essential services, reporting numerous wall collapses and ongoing cleanup efforts.
