Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has requested a legal opinion from the Constitutional Council regarding the possibility of holding simultaneous legislative and local elections. This move comes amid increasing speculation about a potential dissolution of the National Assembly in late November 2026, a power granted to the President after two years of a legislature's term. Current deputies were installed after elections on November 17, 2024, opening a legal window for dissolution from late November 2026. If the Council approves, Senegal could, for the first time, combine legislative and local elections. Local elections are currently scheduled before the expiration of local executive mandates in January 2027. Such a combined vote would significantly alter the electoral calendar and the political landscape leading up to 2027.
