Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s government has proposed a budget of 21.1 billion FCFA for the National Assembly in 2027, a 1.2 billion FCFA decrease – or 5.4% – from the previous year’s 22.3 billion FCFA allocation. This reduction comes amid increasing friction between the Executive and the Parliament, led by Ousmane Sonko. The overall 2027 budget forecasts 6,012.1 billion FCFA in revenue and 7,363.7 billion FCFA in expenditures, with 296.6 billion FCFA designated for constitutional institutions. While the National Assembly’s budget is decreasing, the Presidency’s budget is set to increase by 19.3 billion FCFA, largely due to a significant rise in funding for the “Intergenerational Fund.” The Prime Minister’s office and Constitutional Council will also see budget increases, while the Supreme Court and Court of Auditors face slight reductions. The proposed budget allocates 17.7 billion FCFA to current transfers, 3 billion to capital transfers, and 318.2 million FCFA to investments for the National Assembly.
