Senegal’s National Assembly has established the Committee for the Evaluation of Public Policies (CEPP), a significant step towards strengthening parliamentary control. The committee’s inaugural meeting occurred on August 21, 2026, focusing on its establishment and the election of its governing Bureau. Envisioned since the 2016 constitutional revision, the CEPP will structure, conduct, and monitor parliamentary evaluations of public policies to improve governmental accountability and policy effectiveness. The committee comprises the Assembly president, group leaders, representatives of independent lawmakers, commission chairs, and additional members selected proportionally. Ousmane Sonko, the current Assembly president, was elected as the CEPP’s president, with Mohamed Sall and Djimo Souaré serving as vice-presidents. This committee aims to provide concrete evaluation of governmental actions and reinforce the parliament’s oversight role.
