A court in Louga, Senegal, has sentenced teacher Makhtar Coundoul to five years in prison following a conviction for sexual harassment and attempted indecent acts. The charges stem from an incident on June 4, 2026, in Thylla, Linguère region, involving local merchant Baba Sylla. Coundoul allegedly sent sexually explicit messages to Sylla after an initial meeting and subsequently went to Sylla’s home where he behaved inappropriately. Sylla alerted authorities, who then surveilled Coundoul and apprehended him while allegedly undressing at the victim’s residence. Investigations revealed prior complaints against Coundoul alleging similar offenses. The court found Coundoul guilty and imposed the maximum sentence.
