A 35-year-old painter, Mamadou Demba, died on June 16th while harvesting madd fruit near the village of Kotobo in Senegal’s Sédhiou region. Demba was collecting the fruit with a companion, Ablaye Sakho, to sell at market and provide for his family. He fell from a tree while gathering fallen fruit, sustaining fatal injuries. Despite swift response from villagers and transport to a local health post, he died before reaching medical care. The gendarmerie investigated the incident, confirming the accidental nature of his death. Demba is survived by his wife and four children, leaving the community in mourning.
