A 32-year-old painter, I. Baldé, was arrested in the Grand-Yoff suburb of Dakar, Senegal, following a police operation targeting drug trafficking. Police initially pursued a suspect who evaded capture near a local market before extending their investigation to a nearby property. Baldé was apprehended attempting to flee a residence, and a subsequent search revealed six kilograms of cannabis hidden in his room. He claimed he was fleeing a separate robbery, a claim investigators dismissed, noting he possessed 40,000 FCFA. Baldé denies ownership of the drugs, despite their discovery in his quarters, but is known to police for prior similar offenses. He is currently in police custody as the investigation continues to locate the initial fleeing suspect and determine the full extent of the drug operation.
