Bineta Wahabine Diop, a youth community advisor from Walaldé, in the department of Podor, Senegal, tragically died in a traffic accident on October 1st while returning home. Just two days prior, on September 29th, she had been officially appointed to the Consultative Council of Young People of Senegal at the Grand Theatre of Dakar by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Diop was a dedicated advocate for youth development and women’s empowerment in her rural community within the Senegal River Valley. Elected by her peers, she represented the voice of young people in Walaldé. The new Council, established in December 2025, aims to advise the government on policies affecting Senegalese youth at communal, departmental, regional, and national levels. Her death marks a loss for those who knew her commitment to improving local conditions and expanding opportunities for young people and women in the region.
