A Senegalese court has ruled in favor of Interface SAS and its founder, Magatte Sylla, in a patent infringement case against Sonatel, the country’s main telecommunications operator. The Commercial Court of Dakar has ordered Sonatel to pay Interface SAS and Sylla 119.1 million CFA francs in interest, adding to a previous judgment. The dispute centers on allegations that Sonatel illegally used a patented technological process, “Beinday,” in its “My Business Wifi” service after being presented with it under a confidentiality agreement. In February 2023, the court initially found Sonatel liable, ordering it to pay 1.1 billion CFA francs in damages and cease using the contested service. The ruling was upheld by the Dakar Court of Appeal in May 2025, prompting Interface SAS to pursue enforcement measures, including bank account seizures. This latest decision concerns interest accrued since the initial ruling and further solidifies the court’s stance against Sonatel’s actions.
