Fifty Senegalese agricultural workers, including 29 women and 21 men, have departed for Spain as part of the 2026 circular migration program. This initiative represents a collaborative effort between Senegal and Spain to facilitate safe, legal, and managed professional migration. The selection process for these seasonal workers was conducted with transparency and adherence to Senegalese equality guidelines, according to the Senegalese Directorate for Senegalese Abroad (DSE). Officials emphasized the importance of workers upholding their contractual obligations, particularly the requirement to return to Senegal upon completion of their assignments, to ensure the program’s continuation and expansion. The DSE plans to support the creation of a circular migrants’ association to aid in economic projects and housing solutions. These workers were also encouraged to represent Senegal positively during their time abroad, with the program benefiting from the cooperation of multiple government ministries and the Spanish embassy.
