A prominent religious leader, Serigne Habib Sy Dabakh, has publicly criticized Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, accusing him of betraying the youth and the will of those who elected him. Dabakh announced his official support for the opposition party Pastef during a meeting with its leader, Ousmane Sonko, in Tivaouane. He further condemned what he views as politically motivated dismissals within the administration, asserting that public servants are being removed for holding differing political views. The religious leader expressed concern over a rise in dishonesty and defamation in Senegal’s political discourse, stating current practices are no longer politics. Dabakh defended his public stance, acknowledging the potential for controversy but maintaining that everyone in Senegal engages in politics. He emphasized his need to openly express his position.
