A man in Senegal has confessed to orchestrating a fraudulent marriage scheme, deceiving a family in the Ndande and Touba regions. Serigne Saliou Bèye proposed a marriage between the family and a woman presented as his niece, M.D. Ndiaye, who did not exist as described. The family paid a dowry of 370,000 FCFA based on Bèye’s assurances and a scheduled wedding date. However, while en route to finalize arrangements, Bèye admitted the “niece” was a hired actress used to facilitate the scam. The family reported the incident to police in Kébémer, where Bèye confessed to the deception and was detained. The victim’s family is now demanding a full refund of the dowry, alleging a deliberate and organized fraud.
